Interesting. Being an astrologer myself, Mercury was in
Retrograde motion (apparent BACKWARD motion) on that day.
Traditional theory holds that decisions made during these periods will NOT be final, or will have to be reversed or
re-negotioated at a later date.
Ironic also, that the Moon was in Leo - Jerry's sign - on
that day as well.
Stay tuned,
Dr. Flashback :-)

"dr. flashback" - first, I enjoy reading your posts as well as your review of shows -- very trustworthy -- thank you.

I don't know anything about astrology -- well, maybe one thing: I was born and I'm gonna die.

My question, Doc, what was going on astrologically between 05/19/1995 and 08/09/1995? As followers of the "Grateful Dead," we know what was happening on several levels, but what about up in the sky, anything peculiar or out-of-the ordinary? --- AshesRising

being only an asstrologer myself, I know little of the great importance of the position of planets & stars zillions of miles a-way at birth, and the effect it has on my self-importantance. When I look into the night sky (without, ahem, proper schooling) i can imagine most any patterns or types of critters up there.
I'll say that the power of belief has a 99.99% to do with all that. Other than the Sun, Moon & maybe, Planets in "our" solar system, the gravity effects of any other celestial body in our lives, exists only in some self-important belief system. Now then, the position of a fine female gluteus maximus has a great effect on me!
Beats the hell out of the effects of a star billions of light years a-way! imho.

I don't find astrolgy compelling and I'd rather hear Dr. Flashback's comments on early GD shows, but it's not like we human nowadays are the crown of creation or the pinnacle of evolution.

Unfortunately only a weak wind blows against the empire, but concensus reality as currently defined by scientists and fundamentalists is probably not the limit of reality.

There could be forces not yet discovered or even barely imagined.

How ironic that a band like the Dead would probably be the only one to use the word transitive in a song. Thats one of several dozen reasons to love them.

yep-

that word and the word "copasetic" in west la

Dr Flashback- I too am an astrologer, and the mercury retorgrades over the past 18 months have been particularly severe- I do believe that mercury is stationing at points very close to the grand cross of a few years back. I may look into that.

For those who disbelieve- I have alittle game we can play- for those who are married or in a serious relationship I have always found that people marry the sun sign or moon sign of one of their parents- now with 12 signs, there is a 25% chance this would happen just by coincidence- but I have never found a couple where this is not true- never- and that is hundreds of charts- you can try me- it would be fun- all you need to do is supply your birth date, time, and place- it does not have to be as exact for the parents or the spouses parents- their birth date and year will suffice-

I never even thought about the retrograde going on during the archive war...hmmmm- Dianne- when was the decision made to put the audience shows up again and when was the decision made to offer streaming on the sound boards? I want to see if Mercury had stationed and returned to the point where its retrograde began. Some info on retrograde mercury.

http://astrologyzone.com/forecasts/mercury.html
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/sheldon-drobny/mercury-in-retrograde_b_25389.html

Okay- so what are some of the greatest months in the Dead's playing history? May 1977 is one, right? Mercury was retrograde most of the month- it turned retrograde the end of april at 14 degrees taurus- stationed around the 20th of May and returned to the 14 degree point in Taurus on the 30th of May. Let's check out another month- hmm....Would November of 1973 be considered one of those month's? Yep. Mercury was retrograde.

Would June of 74 qualify? Mercury went retrograde on the 14th of that month. But if things are supposed to go wrong during a retrograde why are these great months? Well, further research will tell you that retrograde periods are times for great inner reflection and for redfining who and what you are- the band is more exploratory in these months and therefore more inspiration flows- mercury retrograde is not just about missed trains and broken hard drives.

Try me on this one too.

August 1972? Retrograde

For Purple Gel who likes many shows in July of 1981- mercury was retrograde.

Dear Liam,
Well well! Thanks for the kind post. I very much enjoyed and admired many of your legal questions last fall. Now I find
you also do astrology. Interesting! We must talk.
Your Mercury Retro findings in relation to peak Dead months
is also fascinating. Never thought about that. Your marriage
Moon/Sun survey is basically the same research model Carl Jung used in his astrology research published in "Synchronicity".
Check it out.

So I have no takers here? No one wants to try the test of astrology and their marraiges or how the planets were aligned during the peak periods of the Dead's History?

are there birth times and places for either of you? The time is important in calculation of your moon sign- th emoon moves quickest, and could be in more than one sign in a 24 hour period- the game is to find out your moon sign- we know your sun signs- and then you tell me the birthdays of the parents

oh silly rasta- I was making no point at all about success rates of marriage- only that people tend to recerate their family upbringing through their choice of marriage partner- since there are so any disfunctional families, marriages do not last- the point of the game wss to show he we unconsciously do this- I believe in any belief system that owrks for you and helps you make the decisions you need to make

any free readings?? (no commercial jets then)
In the past, I've had 3 Tarrot card readings, she could'nt make any sense out of it...and 2 astrology readings (same result). Carlos Castaneda's "reality" viewpoint make the most sense to me- in the Tonal, that is.....

Female - even though you're a Gemini, your Capricorn Moon makes you down to earth enough for Taurus. Sure you like to travel, but your Mars in Cancer says you're really into home. You probably own a house by now, and how's the kid? A little boy most likely. Your Leo Venus likes to rock and roll, and you're fussy about your hair. Pluto is opposing your Sun right now - can be a shaky time, hang on. Major transformations are taking place within yourself.
Male - a fun loving Taurus, popular, with a Leo Moon. Secretly, you like your women to be the boss, but I won't tell anyone. Your Leo Moon really likes her Leo Venus by the way. Big passion, drama (oh,yeah) and romance. You've got a strong spiritual nature (Neptune Jupiter together) and you're great with tools (Mars in Capricorn) but you get too impatient and you drive too fast (2 planets in Aries).
Your Mars in Cap loves her Moon in Capricorn. Do I think this relationship will work??
Probably -you've also had a past life together, but that's
another story, hah hah. How did I do? Email me at

Liamfinnegan: I put a post to dr. flashback but haven't heard back yet. Do you have any idea what was going on astrologically between 05/19/1995 and 08/09/1995? As followers of the "Grateful Dead," we know what was happening on several levels, but what about up in the sky, anything peculiar or out-of-the ordinary?

Also, have you read Phil's book, "Searching for the Sound?" In it he describes the reaction of "Mountain Girl" when she heard the date of Altamont concert --- really intense reaction --- tried to talk the band out of participating. We know the rest of the story. Robert Huner was not attendance but he wrote "New Speedway Boogie" as a "reply to an indictment of the Altamont affair by rock pioneer rock critic Ralp J. Gleason." Nothing really out of the ordinary, but then I deal more with people, not events in my work. I do know that both Pluto and Uranus were changing signs that year - some cosmic shakiness.
Mercury was NOT Retrograde, except for May 24th-June 17th.
Also, Uranus going into Aquarius was bad for Jerry. It would have started to oppose all his Leo planets soon, and a heart attack or stroke was almost certain.

dr flashback: thanks a lot for responding. So many things out of the ordinary took place on that summer tour: death threat on Jerry, Vince being diagnosed with cancer, crowds crashing gates and probably a lot of stuff we don't even know about.
I tell people that Jerry died of a broken heart. In my opinion, that was the only way he was gonna leave. We were forewarned many years earlier, even decades, by the way he sang & played songs like "Stella Blue," "So Many Roads," "Comes a Time," etc.
Did you hear about "Mountain Girl's" reaction when she found out about the date of the Altamont show? Phil wrote about it in his book -- she absolutely freaked due to some astrological phenomenon occuring that day and tried to talk them out of going to the show.
Thanks again for taking the time to respond. Always enjoy reading your posts here in the Forum. - AshesRising

what is the date of the altamont concert- I will look at the ephemeris

also- I will check out the emphemeris for the other time period-

can any one tell me the first date the band known as teh grateful dead actually played- where and when? I could do the band's natal chart- we know Jerry's time of death- what about tie of birth and place? I could look at his personal transits

no doubt the moon turns the tides, considering our physical bodies consist mostly of water it is logical to assume that gravitational forces have some influence over our lives, however slight (once read in a physics book that change occurs in the molecular structure of a train rail when a sparrow lands on it)
